Atlanta Beltline TAD Redevelopment and Land Use Plan
On November 7, 2005, the Atlanta City Council approved the Beltline Tax Allocation District by a vote of 12 to 3.  This is the first step in the approval process of the Beltline project, the vote now goes to the Atlanta Public Schools and the Fulton County Commission.  If approved by all three entities, this exciting initiative will create 22 miles of new mixed use development, 33 miles of greenways paths, 1200 acres of new parks and a public transit component, linking 45 Atlanta neighborhoods.

Comparative Analysis of Redevelopment Incentive Tools
In October 2005, Urban Collage partnered with Bay Area Economics to analyze redevelopment incentive tools to spur revitalization along some of Atlanta’s underserved corridors. The Study evaluated the effectiveness of either Tax Allocation Districts (TADs) or Urban Enterprise Zones (UEZs) along ten major transportation corridors, including the six priority areas identified in the New Century Economic Development Plan. The Atlanta Development Authority and Atlanta City Council received the results of this study this Fall and implementation of recommendations is expected in 2006." 
Town Center Design Guidelines
Urban Collage is in the process of completing a Study for the Town Center Area Community Improvement District (TCACID); with recommendations for future land use, zoning, public space standards and urban design guidelines in Town Center Mall area in northwest metro-Atlanta. The project was funded through a Supplemental Study grant by the Atlanta Regional Commission (ARC) in June 2005 and marks a critical step in the implementation of the Town Center LCI Plan.

Westside Village Groundbreaking

Urban Collage participated in the Historic Westside Village Groundbreaking Ceremony held on November 3, 2005.  Located in the Vine City Neighborhood, next to the Ashby MARTA Station, this mixed-use project will consist of 150 Condominiums, 50 Townhomes and 35,000 sq feet of retail space. 

Bring Back New Orleans Town Hall Meeting

Our Senior Associate John Skach, AIA, AICP will be a facilitator for the Urban Land Institute's (ULI) Town Hall Meeting for displaced New Orleans residents' input on rebuilding their City to be held on December 6, 2005.

 

Presentations and Conferences

Dennis Madsen gave a presentation to the Huntsville, Alabama Rotary Club on the benefits of Market Driven Planning. 

Stan Harvey was a panel member at this years' Mixed Use Development Conference East his session was entitled a Case Study of Midtown Atlanta.  Mr. Harvey also participated in the 2005 International Council of Shopping Centers (ICSC) conference.  He was one of the speakers at the "Nuances of Private/ Public Joint Ventures" session. 

John Skach attended the Brownfields 2005 Conference in Denver Colorado.

Grady Hope VI
The Atlanta Housing Authority was awarded a $20,000,000 HOPE VI grant for the redevelopment of Grady Homes, a key project in the overall revitalization of the Sweet Auburn neighborhood just east of Downtown.  Grady Homes was one of only 7 public housing communities to receive HOPE VI grants in 2005.

Midtown Alliance Receives Grant

The Midtown Alliance received a grant from the Woodruff Foundation to fund construction of a series of open spaces along the Peachtree Street.  These open spaces are part of Midtown's overall Peachtree Street Vision.

Anderson School District Four Approves Referendum

Anderson School District Four overwhelmingly approved a $27 million bond referendum to fund construction of the proposed new elementary school as well as other projects.
